Visitor Pre-Registrations

It is the CSIR security policy requirement that the right of access to CSIR premises is reserved. All CSIR visitors who access or egress the CSIR sites shall be subjected to security access authentication, searching and any reasonable and legal measure(s) necessary to safeguard CSIR assets and persons. The organization has adopted and enforces a zero-tolerance stance to crime and achieve a crime-free working environment and ensure a safe and secure working environment for every person entering and exiting our premises. CSIR premises are firearm-free zones.

While an electronic visitor management system that would allow visitors to pre-register their visits on-line to the access and exit the CSIR premises has been installed but yet to be rolled out (this will happen in the coming months), the following manual visitor management process is applicable:

Visitor Documentations

When the visit has been confirmed by the Host, the Security Receptionist shall require any of the following documentation from the Visitor to validate entry:

Or A valid SAPS/SANDF appointment cards (for Police or SANDF members only)

Failure to produce a valid identification document will result in access being denied.  When the visitor has been authenticated for access, a temporary card or visitor sticker shall be issued and should be visibly always displayed when on the CSIR premises. Upon exit, the visitor shall hand the temporary card or visitor sticker to the Security Officials at the relevant gate.

Declaration of Private Property on entry

a) All visitors are required to declare private assets in their possession before they enter the CSIR site.  A declaration form is available at the Security access point for completion by the owner of the private asset.

Assets without a declaration form or authorised permit will be confiscated by Security Officials upon exit, until proof of ownership can be established.

Upon verification of the asset, the confiscation form will once again be co-signed by the asset owner and security official to release the asset back to the owner.
